So it was rather boring and long-winded to get to the revelation of the “big” mystery so late into the story. Putney is from that era which saw the rise of old-fashioned romance writers. Putney is such an amazing storyteller that builds so many intriguing layers that keep the reader so engrossed! Her stories are noted for psychological depth and unusual subject matter such as alcoholism, death and dying, and domestic abuse. Gervase, however, has an ingrained distrust of women due to a self-absorbed abusive mother.
Fortune sometimes favors the foolish and her first book sold quickly, thereby changing her life forever, in most ways for the better. She was the one who was wronged.
