It is written well enough but they pound it all into your head to the point where yes, you are certainly well informed, but definitely left uninspired.

The chronological ones infuriated me, as many textbooks do: Along the way, they analyze labor relations, family life, social class, and much more. Absolutely great for anyone interested in South America or colonialism.

To be honest, colinial book was boring and only finished it as a supplement amerixa the professor’s lectures which were fair more interesting and passionate.
Only reason why it has three stars instead of one or two is because of how interesting Latin America is. It is an ideal text for use in undergraduate courses in colonial Latin American history. Jamie Berrier rated it it was amazing Jul 10, It is all offered up in a dry tone, but to their credit it amerkca bogs down too badly.
Many kids find history dull because of this kind of structure. Fascinating book, though very, very dense and not a good pick for light reading. That may have been unavoidable, though. The book is written well, but I thought it was dry and uninspiring.

This section was a bit harder to follow and make links because different trends like social classes, the economy, and others were separated out from each other. Erin rated it really liked it May 17, Coyote Longfall rated it liked it Nov 22, There’s a ton of information in this book, with a basically chronological organization for the pre-conquest period and conquests at the beginning of the book and, at the end of the book, the expansion of the settlements and the controls by the Spanish and Portuguese governments leading up to the tumultuous period of the Napoleon’s invasion of the Iberian peninsula that led eventually to independence.
