It is with great joy that I can sit and read a book by an author and appreciate their willingness to grow in their craft, which is what I believe is happening to Jacka with each Alex Benedicy novel he publishes.
Unlike authors who will toss their readers right in and hope for the best, or like authors who are hesitant about world building overpowering the story and so only give sporadic infodumps, Jacka finds a balance between the two. Exciting and thrilling, the third Alex Verus book sealed me as a firm reader and a fan of the series. With Luna as his excuse beneduct with his apprentice eager to learn to use her talents and to start fitting into the mage world on another level, Alex heads for the mansion in the country in hopes of unravelling the mystery once and for all. FYI, I’m old enough to not be the target audience for fantasy books, but also old enough to know that fantasy books are wayyyyy better than reality, so then shouldn’t that make me the target audience?
